On the fifth day of my stay in the central region, I had lunch at the duke and duchess’ mansion to celebrate finishing our previously very hectic 4 days of non-stop work. I firmly requested to set the meeting for lunch time because I wanted everyone in my team to be able to sleep as much as they wanted to for the first time in days.These poor humans barely had any sleep trying to finish all the tasks I have listed by the deadline. As for me, though I am technically no longer human, I would never pass on the chance of staying in bed longer though I do not require as much sleep as others.
The lunch lasted for almost two hours due to everybody wanting to share their stories and also wanting to ask questions and advise from me. Everybody seemed to also have some unmarried brother, son, cousin or nephew that they wanted me to meet. I did not want to be rude so I just went on with the little meet and greet but I was very careful not to show any sign that may be misunderstood as showing interest to anybody. I also have more than enough husbands and fiancés right now.
After lunch, I bid my farewells to everybody, telling them that I would be going back to my inn to rest. They looked disappointed since I did not entertain the unmarried men they wanted to matchmake with me nor drink any of the alcoholic drinks they offered but at the same time they also couldn’t think of a reason to hold me back from leaving. I hurriedly left and went back to the inn before they could think of one.
When I arrived at the inn, I quickly told the inn owner in a discreet way that I will be leaving quietly anytime soon but that they can only clean my rented room by noon of the next day. Of course, I would not tell them the exact time I will be leaving.
I did say noon but I am already planning of leaving this afternoon so I can get a new room and have the time to pick a good inn within the Gale Barony territory. I also plan to do some shopping before fetching Xenos early the next morning to visit my in-laws.
Right after I got inside my room, I felt that I had to have a long and relaxing bath. Afterward, I did a quick change of clothes then I am off to my next destination not even an hour after I got inside the rental room. I teleported to the farthest town from the central area which was one of the areas I have visited and mapped during one of my investigation trips. I have already hired a carriage in advance and told them to wait at this particular time. This will be the ride that will take me to Gale Barony today.
From that town, I will only need less than an hour inside the carriage to reach the barony. Since I left in the middle of the afternoon, I arrived a couple of hours before sunset to my intended destination. Luckily, the afternoon markets are still open and the vendors told me that a separate evening market opens which coincides with the usual time that the workers from the port area finish their shifts.
Since this is nearest to the port area, most of the customers of the establishments and stores were the port area workers both permanent and contractual ones. After a long day of work, it is normal for them to look for food, booze and a place to rest in thus businesses opened just for this huge demand alone.
At this time, it is still early so the crowd hasn’t come out yet from work. I had this few hours to visit each store to see what they offer. I went to the non-food area first since I do not feel like eating anything yet. And thus, another shopping spree begins.
I checked what items they have in here and sold some of my extra stuff that nobody is selling. Retailing is a good way to earn a few extra coins to support the rest of my shopping sprees. I am not that inconsiderate, you know?
When I noticed that the huge crowd of workers are starting to pour out of the port area, I decided to pick one of the best diners in the area based on the information I got from asking the store owners. I found a seat that is in the more secluded area so I can eat in peace and maybe gather some information from the workers’ who would surely be gossiping after the booze kicks in.
Regarding the food, it was good based on the price it was being sold for. I did try the booze a bit just for the heck of it but did not finish them. As for the quality of the gossip, it was juicy and had lots of variety.
Most of the gossip were about labor issues like some strict boss or about wishing to get more pay or shorter hours of work. Some were more specific like who was dating who and who cheated on who. There were also a few talking about other possible job opportunities elsewhere. Some were also comparing their current work and boss to the previous ones that they had.
With the last two years of me gathering information and sifting through information that I had other get for me, I have learned to filter those that are essential and most beneficial based on my goals. The things that they discussed over food and booze might seem insignificant to most but I can still get something useful things from it.
I stayed inside the diner for a little over an hour before I quietly left for the upper floors which was actually a good quality inn in the area. I plan to freshen up and change to more plain looking clothes before going to the night market. This is also one of the reasons why I chose this diner since it is highly accessible to my temporary home here.
